Fritz is a -182 favorite against Nakashima +148 in the Cincinnati Open quarterfinal. The preferred market is Over 2.5 Sets at +105, targeting another extended matchup between two Americans who already played three sets against each other earlier this month.
Fritz has been one of the cleanest players in the tournament. He beat Alex Michelsen 6-3, 6-4, Daniel Merida 6-3, 6-4 and Christopher O'Connell 6-4, 6-3, reaching the quarterfinal without dropping a set. The O'Connell victory also extended his winning streak on American soil to eight matches after his Washington title earlier this month.

Taylor Fritz vs. Brandon Nakashima Prediction
Nakashima's route has been far more dramatic. He saved three match points before upsetting Daniil Medvedev 6-7(3), 7-6(4), 6-1, then followed that comeback with a 6-3, 6-7(5), 6-3 victory over Nuno Borges. Nakashima fired 27 aces against Borges and has now reached his first Cincinnati quarterfinal immediately after making his first Masters 1000 final in Montreal.
That recent run makes Nakashima particularly dangerous despite Fritz's 4-1 head-to-head advantage. The two met in Washington less than three weeks ago, and Nakashima took the second set before Fritz eventually prevailed 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Fritz also beat him 6-3, 6-4 in Dallas earlier this season.
The lone Nakashima victory in the series came at Cincinnati in 2024. He beat Fritz 6-4, 4-6, 7-6(4), winning a third-set tiebreak after nearly two hours of high-level serving and first-strike tennis. That result is especially relevant because it came on the same outdoor hard courts and followed a familiar pattern, with neither player able to completely separate from the other.
Fritz remains the more accomplished player and has been nearly untouchable on serve this week, but Nakashima's service numbers are exactly why the favorite may have difficulty closing this in two. The 24-year-old just struck 27 aces against Borges and has been playing the best tennis of his career throughout the North American summer.
There is some workload concern for Nakashima after the Montreal final and back-to-back three-set Cincinnati victories. At the same time, his confidence has rarely been higher, and his style allows him to shorten points behind the serve rather than depend on endless physical rallies. One strong serving set may be all that is required to extend the match.

Fritz has won four of five meetings, so picking Nakashima outright asks for more than necessary. The matchup history instead points toward giving Nakashima a set. He did it against Fritz in Washington this month, beat him in three sets here two years ago and currently owns the serving level to make at least one set extremely difficult to take away.
