It remains unusual to see a player with Dimitrov's résumé competing in Grand Slam qualifying. Dimitrov has not been at his best this season, which adds some risk to any market requiring a dominant performance. He most recently returned to the North American hard courts in Cincinnati and started brilliantly against Sebastian Baez before ultimately losing in three sets. Giustino represents a substantial step down in competition from the players Dimitrov normally sees on the ATP Tour. The Italian has spent the majority of his career at the Challenger and ITF levels and has traditionally done most of his best work on clay. Facing Dimitrov on a hard court in New York requires him to handle a completely different combination of pace, variety and first-strike tennis.
The 19.5-game total leaves little margin for a competitive set. A 6-3, 6-4 Dimitrov victory would cash the under at exactly 19 games, while two 6-4 sets would already push the match over. That makes an early break particularly important, but the enormous moneyline indicates just how large the underlying talent gap is expected to be.
Dimitrov also has every incentive to avoid turning his qualifying opener into a physical battle. He needs three wins in a short window simply to reach the main draw, making a clean straight-sets performance far more valuable than surviving a long three-set match. Against a +730 underdog, there should be opportunities to attack second serves, generate repeated break chances and keep the scoreboard moving quickly.
