Sakellaridis and O'Connell are scheduled for a 1:20 PM ET start at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. O'Connell enters as the -166 moneyline favorite, with Sakellaridis available at +136 as both players begin a three-match path through qualifying and into the US Open main draw.
O'Connell is the more proven player at this level, but this is hardly an ideal opponent for a quick straight-sets victory. The 32-year-old Australian is ranked around No. 129 and has plenty of experience in New York, including a run to the third round of the 2024 US Open before falling to eventual champion Jannik Sinner.

Stefanos Sakellaridis vs. Christopher O'Connell Prediction
His form has also improved at the right time. O'Connell put together his best stretch of the summer in Cincinnati, beating Dane Sweeny in three sets before taking down Alexander Shevchenko and Kamil Majchrzak in straight sets. Casper Ruud then retired from their matchup before O'Connell's run finally ended against Taylor Fritz.
Sakellaridis may be the less familiar name, but the 21-year-old Greek has been playing too well to dismiss. He came through qualifying at the Quebec City Challenger last week and continued all the way to the final, beating Aleksandar Vukic, Zizou Bergs and Taro Daniel along the way before Luca Van Assche finally stopped him.
More importantly for this market, Sakellaridis has repeatedly shown an ability to survive extended matches. Three consecutive matches during his Quebec City run required deciding sets, including comeback wins during qualifying and a three-set victory over Bergs. He also won three matches in Wimbledon qualifying earlier this summer before falling one victory short of the main draw.
That creates a strong setup for an exact-score play. O'Connell should eventually have the edge through his experience, more established hard-court game and recent success against ATP-level opposition. Sakellaridis, however, has played enough competitive tennis lately to make laying a premium on an O'Connell straight-sets win uncomfortable.

The -166 moneyline offers little upside by itself, while +250 significantly improves the return for a match that has a realistic three-set script. Sakellaridis has the confidence and current form to grab a set, but O'Connell has been through these Grand Slam situations many more times and should have the steadier level when the match reaches its decisive stages.
