Stefanos Tsitsipas faces Aleksandar Kovacevic in Wednesday night's Winston-Salem Open Round of 16 as both look to sharpen their games before heading to New York. Tsitsipas is a substantial favorite, but Kovacevic's aggressive hard-court game gives the American a path to making the match far more complicated.

Kovacevic and Tsitsipas are scheduled for a 6:30 PM ET start on Stadium Court. Tsitsipas is a -274 favorite and Kovacevic sits at +217, but the more intriguing question is whether the former World No. 3 can get through another match without dropping a set.
Tsitsipas survived his first test against Jenson Brooksby 6-4, 7-6. The score looks comfortable enough, but the match was separated by only two total points, with Tsitsipas winning 87 to Brooksby's 85. He also committed seven double faults and was broken once, leaving some openings despite advancing in straight sets.

Aleksandar Kovacevic vs. Stefanos Tsitsipas Prediction
That continues a summer in which Tsitsipas has shown flashes without completely returning to his old dominant level. He is 26-18 overall and 12-9 on hard courts this season, with his ranking back around No. 53 after dropping considerably earlier in the year.
Kovacevic arrives with confidence after taking down Luca Van Assche 6-1, 7-6 on Tuesday. The American immediately imposed himself in the opening set and then handled the pressure of a much tighter second, exactly the combination needed to challenge a favorite as experienced as Tsitsipas.
Tsitsipas owns the only previous meeting, winning 7-6, 6-3 at Los Cabos in 2024. Even that straight-sets result showed how Kovacevic can make this matchup uncomfortable. One tiebreak or a brief dip from Tsitsipas is enough to send Wednesday's meeting to a deciding set.
The US Open being next week adds another element. Tsitsipas wants wins and confidence, but there is little reason to expect peak intensity on every point of an ATP 250 tune-up. Kovacevic, meanwhile, has a major opportunity to reach a quarterfinal on home soil and should attack the match aggressively from the start.

Tsitsipas should still have the stronger overall level if this becomes a three-set battle, but the -274 moneyline badly understates Kovacevic's ability to steal one. With +120 available on the match reaching a decider, backing both players to win a set is the stronger way to approach the favorite.
