Luka Mikrut vs. Nishesh Basavareddy Prediction, Betting Pick, Latest US Open Qualifiers Odds - Wednesday, August 26th

Nishesh Basavareddy faces Luka Mikrut in the second round of US Open qualifying Wednesday as two young players battle for a place in Thursday's qualifying finale. Basavareddy had to survive a marathon opener, while Mikrut advanced in a much cleaner straight-sets performance.

Luka Mikrut vs. Nishesh Basavareddy Prediction: Can Basavereddy Handle Business at Home in US Open Qualifiers?

Mikrut and Basavareddy are scheduled for a 1:20 PM ET start, with Basavareddy a heavy -232 moneyline favorite and Mikrut at +186. Rather than laying that price outright, combining Basavareddy to win the opening set and the match brings the number down to a much more playable -135.

Basavareddy was pushed hard Tuesday by 17-year-old Moise Kouame, eventually winning 7-6(3), 4-6, 6-3 in a match that lasted nearly three hours. The American did not have his best level throughout, but he won the opening-set tiebreak and then regained control after dropping the second, showing the resilience required to survive Grand Slam qualifying.

Luka Mikrut vs. Nishesh Basavareddy Prediction

It was another useful big-match result for a player who has already shown a high ceiling this season. Basavareddy stunned Taylor Fritz in the first round of Roland Garros and enters New York as the No. 32 qualifying seed, with a previous career-high ranking of No. 99.

Mikrut had a much easier opener, beating Nikolas Sanchez Izquierdo 6-3, 6-4. The 22-year-old Croatian is making his first appearance in US Open qualifying and has traditionally done far more of his damage on clay, with only a small hard-court sample this season.

There is no previous head-to-head meeting, so the market is largely pricing the difference in proven hard-court level. Basavareddy has a much deeper history on the surface and has already faced significantly stronger competition, while Mikrut's career has been built primarily through clay-court events.

The only concern is the workload from Tuesday. Basavareddy was on court for 2 hours and 48 minutes, while Mikrut got through his match in straight sets. But the American is 21, playing at home and only one match away from the final round, making fatigue less concerning than it would be late in a normal tournament week.

Basavareddy also won the first set Tuesday even while being pushed hard, which fits the preferred game script here. If he establishes his return game early against Mikrut, the stronger hard-court player should be able to build the lead and avoid needing another comeback.

Luka Mikrut vs. Nishesh Basavareddy Best Bet

Paying -232 for the moneyline offers very little. Getting Basavareddy to win the first set and finish the job at -135 better captures the matchup advantage without asking him to dominate every game.
