Juan Manuel Cerundolo vs. Ignacio Buse Prediction, Betting Pick, Latest Winston-Salem Open Odds - Thursday, August 27th

Ignacio Buse and Juan Manuel Cerundolo meet Thursday in the Winston-Salem Open quarterfinals as the two highest-ranked players remaining in the top half of the draw. Cerundolo owns the previous head-to-head meetings, but the surface changes the equation as the rivalry moves to hard courts for the first time.

Juan Manuel Cerundolo vs. Ignacio Buse Prediction: Will Buse Continue Hot Streak at Winston Salem Open?

Buse and Cerundolo are scheduled for a 4:00 PM ET start on Stadium Court. The market has almost nothing separating them, with Cerundolo at -118 and Buse available at -103 despite the Peruvian entering as the No. 3 seed and highest remaining seed in the tournament.

Buse earned his quarterfinal spot with a strong 7-6, 7-5 victory over Daniel Altmaier. The second set was particularly encouraging because Altmaier built a 5-2 advantage and looked ready to force a decider before Buse responded by winning five consecutive games to close the match.

Juan Manuel Cerundolo vs. Ignacio Buse Prediction

That followed a more difficult 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 victory over Adam Walton in his opener. Buse has therefore already experienced both types of matches this week, surviving a three-set battle and then finding a way to close a tight straight-sets contest against an established ATP opponent.

Cerundolo has had a much easier route. He beat Dhakshineswar Suresh 7-6, 6-3 before leading Sebastian Baez 6-2, 4-0 when Baez retired Wednesday. The Argentine has spent less energy getting here and has clearly been playing well, which explains why the market has him as a slight favorite.

The head-to-head is also on Cerundolo's side at 2-0, including a 6-3, 6-3 victory in the Gstaad semifinals last season. There is an important qualifier, however. Both previous meetings came on clay. Thursday represents their first meeting on a hard court, where those old results should carry considerably less weight.

Buse has looked increasingly comfortable on hard courts and enters ranked No. 36 compared to Cerundolo at No. 51. His ability to stay aggressive while defending under pressure was evident against Altmaier, when he produced 40 winners and repeatedly found his best tennis with the set slipping away.

Juan Manuel Cerundolo vs. Ignacio Buse Best Bet

At nearly even money, the surface switch makes Buse the more appealing side. Cerundolo's previous dominance in this matchup deserves respect, but hard courts reduce some of the advantage he enjoyed in those clay rallies. Buse is playing with confidence, just completed a huge second-set comeback and has a legitimate opportunity to turn his highest-remaining-seed status into a semifinal appearance.
