Wolf's ranking makes the matchup look significantly more lopsided than his current level suggests. He spent roughly 18 months away after a shoulder injury and was outside the Top 900 only a few months ago, but his comeback has accelerated dramatically this summer.

The biggest breakthrough came in Vancouver, where Wolf won the Challenger 125 title and earned enough points to capture the USTA's US Open Wild Card Challenge. That secured his place in the main draw and pushed a player once ranked No. 39 back toward the Top 250.
This is also one of the rare matchups where Wolf can look across the net at a Top-20 opponent and know his game has consistently worked. Wolf leads Bublik in their ATP head-to-head meetings and has beaten him every time they have played on a hard court. Including their Cincinnati qualifying match from 2019, Wolf owns three hard-court victories over Bublik without a loss.
Bublik's lone victory came on grass at Wimbledon in 2023, where his enormous serve and variety were particularly difficult to neutralize. Hard courts create a different matchup, and Wolf has repeatedly shown he can take the ball early enough to prevent Bublik from dictating every service game.
There is also a rust question surrounding the favorite. Bublik has not played a competitive match since reaching the Kitzbühel final in late July, meaning he skipped the entire North American Masters swing. His most recent events were on clay, so his first hard-court match in weeks comes directly in a best-of-five Grand Slam setting.
Bublik is talented enough to make that irrelevant very quickly. He has reached the Top 10, possesses one of the biggest serves on tour and can overwhelm Wolf if the American's return position slips. The issue is whether that makes him worthy of such a substantial favorite price against an opponent who clearly likes the matchup.
