Faria and Brooksby are scheduled for approximately 2:30 PM ET at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Brooksby is the -133 favorite against Faria at +105 in one of the tighter first-round markets on Sunday's men's schedule.
The recent head-to-head result is the obvious concern. Faria beat Brooksby 6-3, 6-2 in Cincinnati earlier this month, breaking him four times and dominating behind his first serve. Faria then continued an excellent tournament by beating Ben Shelton and Adam Walton before Lorenzo Musetti finally stopped him in the Round of 16.

Brooksby's broader summer has still been encouraging. He reached the quarterfinals in Los Cabos with wins over Corentin Moutet and Edward Winter, beat Adam Walton in Montreal and most recently dismantled Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 6-3, 6-2 in Winston-Salem. Stefanos Tsitsipas eliminated him there, but Brooksby pushed the second set all the way to a tiebreak in a competitive 6-4, 7-6 loss.
That makes the Cincinnati meeting important without necessarily making it predictive enough to automatically back Faria again. Brooksby now knows exactly where the matchup broke down, particularly on his second serve, and gets to make adjustments in a best-of-five setting rather than another quick Masters match.
The setting also favors the American. Brooksby has previously reached the second week at the US Open and his unconventional baseline game tends to become more difficult to solve as matches extend. He can turn straightforward rallies into uncomfortable exchanges, change direction early and force opponents to repeatedly hit another ball.

Faria is playing well enough to make this dangerous and could easily take a set or two.
