Landaluce and Fearnley are scheduled for approximately 4:30 PM ET, with Landaluce the slight -120 favorite and Fearnley available at -105. The near pick'em price reflects two players whose trajectories are moving upward but who arrive with very different levels of immediate familiarity with the New York conditions.
Fearnley already has nearly a full tournament worth of tennis in his legs. He opened qualifying by beating Roberto Carballes Baena 7-6, 6-3, then survived Luka Pavlovic 6-4, 6-7, 6-4. His run appeared finished after Jurij Rodionov came back to beat him 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the qualifying finale.

Martin Landaluce vs. Jacob Fearnley Prediction
A lucky-loser opening changed everything. Rather than leaving New York after the disappointment, Fearnley enters the main draw having already played eight competitive sets at Flushing Meadows. He knows the court speed, bounce and conditions, while Landaluce has to establish that rhythm immediately.
The qualifying loss is obviously not an ideal result, but Fearnley has already climbed as high as No. 49 in the world and owns more ATP-level experience than his current ranking suggests. He has also shown that his serve and aggressive baseline game translate well to quicker hard courts.
Landaluce is one of Spain's best young prospects and enters around a career-high No. 67. His North American summer included a respectable Cincinnati run, but he also suffered opening-round losses in Los Cabos, Montreal and Winston-Salem. The 20-year-old has enormous upside without yet producing the week-to-week consistency that makes him comfortable to back as a favorite.
Fearnley's three qualifying matches could create some fatigue, but in the opening round of a Grand Slam the immediate match sharpness is just as important. He has already experienced tiebreaks, three-set matches and pressure situations on these courts while Landaluce is starting from scratch.

The lucky-loser route has given Fearnley a second life, and the market is essentially asking which player wins a coin flip. At -105, take the player who is already completely acclimated to the New York courts and has enough proven ATP upside to capitalize on the opportunity.
