The market reflects how dramatically their trajectories have separated. Fils enters the US Open at a career-high No. 11 after winning his first Masters 1000 title in Cincinnati, beating Frances Tiafoe 6-3, 1-6, 6-0 in the final. The 22-year-old has become one of the hottest hard-court players on tour and arrives with more confidence than at any previous major.

Tsitsipas has struggled to sustain anything close to his old level. He briefly rediscovered momentum by winning Gstaad on clay earlier this summer, but the North American hard-court swing has been much shakier. He went only 4-4 across his summer hard-court events and was most recently beaten 6-3, 7-6 by Aleksandar Kovacevic in Winston-Salem.
The head-to-head matchup is even more convincing. Fils is a perfect 5-0 against Tsitsipas and has lost only one completed set across those five meetings. He crushed the Greek 6-0, 6-1 in Miami earlier this season, beat him from a set down in Rome and also owns straight-set victories over him on indoor hard courts.
That Miami result is particularly difficult to ignore. Tsitsipas had almost no answer for Fils' pace and athleticism, and those problems should become even more pronounced on the New York hard courts. Fils can attack the vulnerable one-handed backhand with heavy pace while also possessing enough movement to turn Tsitsipas' first-strike attacks into extended rallies.
The obvious concern is the format. Winning 3-0 at a Slam requires three clean sets, and Tsitsipas remains experienced enough to steal a tiebreak or take advantage of one brief drop in Fils' level. Still, the history suggests this is about as favorable a matchup as Fils could draw against a player with Tsitsipas' name recognition.
