There is no previous head-to-head meeting. That may actually help Vallejo because he does not have to carry any history of being intimidated by Monfils' reputation or unusual athletic style. The Paraguayan can simply make this physical, extend rallies and test whether the veteran can repeatedly recover through three winning sets.

Monfils could absolutely ride the crowd to an early set, and that is the primary danger. Over the full match, however, asking a 40-year-old with an injury-heavy season to outlast an opponent 18 years younger is difficult. Vallejo's legs should become more valuable with each passing hour.
