His serve creates the largest mismatch Tuesday. Fritz has developed into one of the most reliable servers on tour and can pile up quick holds without allowing an inexperienced opponent to build return rhythm. Against a teenager playing his first US Open main-draw match, that can create scoreboard pressure almost immediately.
Blanch earned his wild card by winning the USTA Boys' 18s National Championship. He is only 18 but already owns an ATP-level breakthrough, becoming the youngest American in roughly a decade to win a Miami Open match earlier this season. His aggressive style and willingness to take big cuts make him dangerous long term.
The current gap remains enormous. Blanch is ranked outside the Top 200 and has very little experience dealing with an opponent who can serve this efficiently while also punishing short second serves. This will be his first career meeting with Fritz.
The 31.5-game total provides Fritz plenty of flexibility. Three 6-4 sets would finish at only 30 games, meaning Blanch can remain reasonably competitive throughout without threatening the under. Something closer to 6-2, 6-3, 6-4 leaves even more room.
