Svajda is a much different player now. He has climbed into the Top 100 and produced several encouraging hard-court performances this summer, including a three-set win over Denis Shapovalov in Montreal. He then pushed Arthur Fils to three sets before losing, showing he can stay with substantially more explosive opponents than Tuesday's matchup presents.
Altmaier's recent North American results have been solid rather than overwhelming. He reached the Round of 16 in Winston-Salem before losing 7-6, 7-5 to Ignacio Buse, failing to convert either tight set despite staying competitive throughout.
The first-set component is where Svajda becomes more interesting than simply laying -166. Playing at home on his preferred surface, he should be able to immediately attack Altmaier's second serve and dictate flatter exchanges before the German has time to settle into a long baseline rhythm.
