Emma Navarro vs. Caty McNally Prediction, Betting Pick, Latest US Open Odds for Wednesday, September 2nd

Emma Navarro and Caty McNally meet in an all-American US Open second-round matchup Wednesday after taking very different routes through Round 1. Navarro needed three sets to survive, while McNally looked far sharper and now gets another chance to beat an opponent she already took down earlier this summer.

Emma Navarro vs. Caty McNally Prediction: Can McNally Stay Hot, Pull Slim Upset in All-American Battle at US Open?

Navarro and McNally are scheduled for a 12:40 PM ET start, with Navarro favored at -133 and McNally available at +105. The market sees essentially a coin flip despite Navarro carrying the superior ranking and Grand Slam résumé, which speaks to how well McNally has been playing on hard courts.

Navarro had to work immediately in her opener against Loïs Boisson. She won the first set in a tiebreak, lost the second in another and finally escaped 7-6, 6-7, 6-3. It was a physically demanding way to begin the tournament against an opponent far less comfortable on hard courts than McNally.

Emma Navarro vs. Caty McNally Prediction

That fits a larger concern with Navarro's recent form. She is only 7-12 on hard courts this season and entered New York having gone 2-3 across Washington, Montreal and Cincinnati. The talent and consistency that previously carried her into the Top 10 are still there, but she has not been controlling matches with the same regularity.

McNally arrives with considerably more momentum. She beat Anouk Koevermans 7-5, 6-1 in the first round and has now won six matches during the North American swing. That run includes a straight-sets upset of reigning Wimbledon champion Linda Noskova in Montreal and another strong win over McCartney Kessler in Cincinnati.

The recent head-to-head makes the +105 price even more interesting. Navarro beat McNally 6-2, 6-1 at this tournament last season, but McNally answered in June by beating her 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 in the Netherlands. The most recent meeting therefore belongs to the underdog, and the way McNally responded after losing the opening set showed she can stay patient when Navarro begins dictating rallies.

McNally also brings more variety than the typical baseline opponent. She can attack the net, change court position and prevent Navarro from settling into repetitive crosscourt patterns. With Navarro coming off nearly three full sets and McNally needing only two, there is also a small workload advantage.

Emma Navarro vs. Caty McNally Best Bet

Navarro remains capable of grinding this out, but there is very little separating these players at the moment. McNally is playing the better hard-court tennis, already beat Navarro this season and looked substantially cleaner in Round 1. At plus money, take the American underdog to continue her surge.
