Marta Kostyuk vs. Sloane Stephens Prediction, Betting Pick, Latest US Open Odds for Wednesday, September 2nd
Marta Kostyuk and Sloane Stephens meet Wednesday in the US Open second round only two weeks after Kostyuk beat the former champion in Cincinnati. Stephens turned back the clock with a dominant opening-round performance, but Kostyuk enters as one of the hottest players in the women's draw and should present a much tougher challenge.

Kostyuk and Stephens are scheduled for a 12:40 PM ET start, with Kostyuk an enormous -900 favorite and Stephens at +548. The market expects the No. 11 seed to advance comfortably, putting the focus on whether she can keep the match below 19.5 total games.
Stephens deserves credit for one of the biggest surprises of Round 1. The World No. 209 entered as a clear underdog against Clara Tauson but erased an early 3-1 deficit and rolled to a 6-4, 6-1 victory in only 76 minutes. She committed just 10 unforced errors and saved four of five break points.

Marta Kostyuk vs. Sloane Stephens Prediction
It was easily one of Stephens' strongest performances during a difficult comeback season. The 2017 US Open champion had not won a match at Flushing Meadows since 2022 and had not won at any Grand Slam since 2024, making Monday's result a legitimate vintage performance rather than just another routine first-round victory.
Kostyuk is still a much more difficult opponent. She opened the tournament by beating Storm Hunter 6-4, 6-1 in only 67 minutes and enters after reaching the semifinals at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon this season. She has become far more reliable at turning defensive positions into offense and can consistently pressure Stephens' movement from both wings.
There is also extremely recent head-to-head history. Kostyuk beat Stephens 7-5, 7-5 in Cincinnati on August 18, giving her a 1-0 career advantage. That 24-game result is the obvious warning for an under ticket, but it also showed Kostyuk could win both sets even when Stephens was playing well enough to stay competitive.
The difference Wednesday is the level Kostyuk showed in Round 1 and the likelihood that Stephens regresses somewhat from an unusually clean performance. Tauson gave away 30 unforced errors Monday, while Kostyuk is unlikely to provide nearly as many free points. Stephens will have to create much more of her own offense against a player capable of defending and immediately turning rallies around.

The 19.5 number can still cash without a complete blowout. A 6-3, 6-3 result finishes at 18 games, while 6-4, 6-2 also gets there. Kostyuk should generate enough return pressure to separate in at least one set, and if Stephens cannot recreate Monday's near-error-free performance, the other could get away from her quickly as well.
