Botic van de Zandschulp vs. Alex de Minaur Prediction, Betting Pick, Latest US Open Odds for Thursday, September 3rd
Botic van de Zandschulp faces Alex de Minaur Thursday in a second-round matchup where the Australian owns the head-to-head advantage but the Dutchman enters playing some of his sharpest tennis of the summer. De Minaur is a major favorite to advance, yet asking Botic to take at least two sets provides a much different betting proposition.

Van de Zandschulp and de Minaur are scheduled for approximately 4:30 PM ET on Grandstand. De Minaur is a heavy -301 favorite while Botic sits at +227, but the preferred wager only needs the Dutchman to win two sets at +105.
Van de Zandschulp was excellent in Round 1. He beat Jan Choinski 6-3, 6-1, 7-6, controlling the first two sets before surviving a much tighter third. The straight-sets result is especially useful given the weather problems around the tournament, because it limited the physical cost of playing Wednesday.

Botic van de Zandschulp vs. Alex de Minaur Prediction
His broader recent form has been strong as well. Botic reached the Winston-Salem quarterfinals and produced one of the most dominant matches of that tournament by crushing Luciano Darderi 6-1, 6-0. Benjamin Bonzi eventually stopped him, but the Dutchman has been serving and striking the ball cleanly for multiple weeks.
De Minaur also handled Round 1 without dropping a set, beating Andrea Guerrieri 6-2, 6-2, 6-4 despite multiple rain interruptions. The Australian was forced off court during the second set but returned without losing control.
The head-to-head clearly favors de Minaur at 3-0. He beat Botic in straight sets twice in 2025, including a 6-1, 7-5, 6-4 Australian Open victory. Their most recent meeting in Rotterdam this February was dramatically closer, however. Van de Zandschulp won the opening set 6-3 and pushed de Minaur through a second-set tiebreak before finally losing 3-6, 7-6, 7-5.
That Rotterdam match is exactly why the two-set prop is appealing. Botic does not need to pull the upset. He can lose 3-2 and the wager still cashes. He only needs to reproduce the pressure he created in their most recent meeting and force de Minaur deep into the match.

De Minaur's speed and return game make him the more reliable player over five sets. That is why backing Botic outright at +227 is unnecessarily aggressive. But the Dutchman's serve and current confidence are strong enough to create long service stretches and at least a couple of sets where one late break or tiebreak determines the result.
Both players are on a short turnaround after weather affected their first-round schedules. Botic's straight-set win limited that damage, and his recent level makes another competitive match much more plausible than the moneyline suggests.
