Fritz barely broke a sweat in the opening round. He beat 18-year-old Darwin Blanch 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 in only 100 minutes, firing 14 aces against one double fault and dropping only one first-serve point in the opening set. The American never needed to find his absolute best return level because his serve kept almost every game under control.

Bellucci was even more dominant against qualifier Zsombor Piros. The Italian won 6-4, 6-2, 6-0, hit 14 aces and did not face a successful break all afternoon. He won 88% of his first-serve points and broke Piros six times, so this is not a second-round opponent arriving simply because of a fortunate draw.
There is also meaningful head-to-head history. Fritz beat Bellucci 5-7, 7-5, 7-5 in Stuttgart in June, a match in which Bellucci pushed the American for more than two hours and actually won the opening set. Fritz did not lose serve all match, however, and eventually broke in the closing stages of both the second and third sets.
That previous meeting is the biggest concern with asking for a sweep. Bellucci's left-handed serve and willingness to redirect pace can make individual sets uncomfortable, and he already showed he can stay even with Fritz deep into sets.
The difference is the surface and setting. Stuttgart rewarded Bellucci's first-strike grass-court game and allowed nearly every set to be decided by one late break. On the New York hard courts, Fritz should get more opportunities to engage on return, particularly against Bellucci's second serve, while still maintaining the enormous serving advantage he showed in Round 1.
Fritz also has every incentive to keep this short. He reached the US Open final in 2024 and knows how important conserving energy becomes over two weeks. After sweeping Blanch and watching Bellucci expend almost no energy himself, the American should attack immediately rather than allow another slow-starting rematch.

Bellucci is talented enough that one set could easily reach 7-5, but Fritz does not need to dominate each one. Three professional sets with the serve controlling pressure points should be enough to keep the Italian from stealing a set this time.
