Brentford named as new joint-favourites to win the Championship

The Bees are flying high and have become the one to beat.

Brentford are the new joint-favourites to win the Championship this season, following their 2-0 win over Wigan.

They’ve been placed ahead of the likes of Middlesbrough and West Brom in the race for the Championship title, and are now the same price as Leeds at 9/2.

Just last month, Oddschecker reported that the Bees had been cut from 16/1 into 9/1, but money has continued to pour in for Dean Smith’s side.

Despite being the same price as challengers Leeds, Brentford are being fancied to win the league more by punters, attracting 24% of all bets in the last 24 hours.

Elsewhere, brace scoring hero Neal Maupay is the clear favourite to finish the season as Championship top scorer, following his return from a three-match ban.

He’s now 5/1 favourite to top the charts, ahead of Dwight Gayle (10/1) and Jay Rodriguez (10/1).

Oddschecker spokesperson Teague Calvin: "Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds are the team that have been hitting the headlines at the start of this season but it's arguably the less fashionably named Dean Smith that is doing the better job.

"Not many saw Brentford as realistic contenders to win the Championship, but they have been stylishly picking up results and with the help of Neal Maupay's goals, Bees fans have realistic hopes of playing Premier League football next term."
