Cardiff City's Neil Warnock pulls ahead of Jose Mourinho in sack race

The Bluebirds are winless this season and Warnock is now second-favourite to be the first Premier League manager to leave.

Neil Warnock has overtaken Jose Mourinho in the Premier League sack race and is breathing down the neck of Manuel Pellegrini to be the bookies favourite.

Cardiff City dropped to yet another defeat at the hands of Chelsea, resulting in a flurry of bets on the 69-year-old being the first boss to be relieved of his duties this season.

Wins for both under pressure managers Mourinho and Manuel Pellegrini has seen their odds fluctuate on being the next to go, whilst Warnock’s have halved since the start of the month.

On September 2nd, Warnock was 10/1 to be the first manager to leave. That’s been cut to as short as 5/1, with bettors heavily backing the Bluebirds boss to go next. The best price available is 11/2.

Elsewhere, Pellegrini is still favourite to go next, despite picking up a crucial win against Everton, at 5/1, and as short as 4/1Warnock is next (11/2), followed by Mourinho (6/1), Claude Paul (6/1) and Mark Hughes (7/1).

Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: “While he did a phenomenal job in getting Cardiff promoted, there has always been the feeling that Neil Warnock may be traded in for a newer, shinier managerial model if life back in the Premier League didn't go to plan.

“A 4-1 defeat at the hands of rampant Chelsea is no sackable offence, and with Man City up next the gamble on Warnock facing the sack may be a touch premature.”
