Birmingham City currently being backed for an unlikely Championship promotion

The Blues haven't been in the Premier League since 2011, could that change soon?

Birmingham City are the most backed Championship team to gain promotion this season, with punters lumping on the Blues to go up.

In total, Birmingham have accrued 39% of all bets over the last 24 hours, and 14% of all bets over the last seven days  the most out of any time in both time frames.

That’s despite being a best price of 40/1 to make it back to the Premier League, a lofty price to say the least. However, the Blues are as short as 16/1 with some bookmakers to escape the Championship.

After a frustrating run of early results, the win over Leeds proved the catalyst, sparking an unbeaten run in their last eight games.

Elsewhere, West Brom are odds-on favourites to bounce back to the Premier League at 4/5, followed by Leeds (7/5), Middlesbrough (6/4) and Sheffield United (7/4).

Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: “The performances behind the scores always suggested that this Birmingham team were better than their league position.

“However, now that Garry Monk's men have learnt how to win, punters have seen enough to invest in the Blues' chances of sealing a return to the top flight.”
