Frank Lampard's Derby County the best backed side for promotion this weekend

The Rams fired past Birmingham at Pride Park and could be set to gate-crash the top two soon.

Frank Lampard has taken to management like a duck to water it seems, as the Rams sit in the Championship playoffs after a six game unbeaten league run.

Derby beat Birmingham 3-1 at Pride Park on Saturday, and have scored in nine of their last ten games.

They have been quietly improving after a small blip in September/October, and punters must like what they have been seeing.

They are the most backed team over the weekend for promotion, attracting a quarter of all bets. That’s more than Aston Villa in second place (17% of total bets) and Norwich in third (17%).

Derby are 11/4 best price for a return to the Premier League after 12 seasons, which puts them the sixth most likely team for a Premier League place.

The aforementioned Villans are a huge 8/1, but made further progress under Dean Smith win a win over Bolton on Friday night.

Elsewhere, Leeds went back on top of the Championship after beating Wigan 2-1 at the DW Stadium. They are 11/10 for promotion, with some bookies making them ODDS-ON shots at 5/6.

Oddschecker Spokesman George Elek: “Derby have been improving steadily and they showed what they could do against Chelsea midweek. Back in the league however, they are going from strength to strength and it is no surprise to see them well backed for promotion currently. If they turn some of those draws into wins over the coming weeks, the 11/4 price for promotion will drop sharply.”
