Dortmund most backed for Bundesliga title after Der Klassiker thriller

Die Schwarzgelben are now joint favourites after defeating the mighty Bayern Munich.

Borussia Dortmund beat Bayern Munich 3-2 last night, twice coming from behind to overcome the current German champions in a thrilling contest at the Westfalenstadion.

Last night’s result has led to a flurry of bets on Dortmund winning the Bundesliga, with 74% of bets in the last 24 hours going on them.

They are joint favourites for the title alongside Bayern Munich, having been cut from 5/2 before the game to as short as 10/11 (best price 5/4). Meanwhile, Bayern have drifted to the same odds having been as short as 3/10 in places before kick-off.

Former Dortmund man Robert Lewandowski bagged a brace that put his side in the lead on both occasions, but Lucien Favre’s team showed immense character to fight back.

Goals from Marco Reus and Paco Alcacer, and no shortage of attacking contributions from England starlet Jadon Sancho, saw Dortmund emerge victorious at the Westfalenstadion.

Dortmund have not won the league since 2012, under the guidance of Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp at the time.

Since then, Die Schwarzgelben have shown glimmers of recapturing that brand of exciting attacking football, but under Favre they are more than back to their best. The last time Dortmund met Bayern resulted in a 6-0 thrashing for the men from Munich, evidence in itself for the club’s improvement this season.

Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: “The Bundesliga has been a bit of a one-horse race since the days of Klopp vs Guardiola.”

“Last night was a serious statement. Dortmund look like a side capable of winning this title, with impressive form in the Champions League too.”
