Which marksmen did punters back the most in 2018? We trawl the data to find out.
We had goals galore in the league, cup and World Cup. It was a 2018 to remember, with the likes of Ronaldo and Messi being joined by a certain Englishman, and a certain Egyptian!
But who was backed the most over the last 12 months? We've looked at the data to find the five best backed men...
5) Sergio Aguero
Man City's record goalscorer could be seen as a bit of a risky bet at times with his injury record and Pep Guardiola's rotation policy, but it didn't stop punters piling into Aguero.
The biggest single bet on him directly is to win the Golden Boot in the Premier League this season. He's currently five goals behind Alexander Lacazette though!
4) Mo Salah
He might have been one of the greatest Premier League scorers, but he was only the fourth best-backed player in the first scorer market. He received more bets in total than third place, but a much less average stake.
3) Cristiano Ronaldo
The only non-Premier League player on the list, Ronaldo has been scoring in two counties and two leagues but was relatively quiet in the World Cup. CR7 has been hitting the back of the net relatively fluidly in Serie A and there's still plenty of life in him yet.
2) Romelu Lukaku
So often derided on Social Media, there's obviously plenty of people out there that still rate him because he secures the second spot here, despite having the lowest 'max stake' of all five players.
The lowest scorer in 2018 on this list too, he may have ended up burning the fingers of some punters on occasion, but could yet be rejuvenated by Ole Solskjaer.
1) Harry Kane
Did you really expect anybody else? The Golden Boot winner at the World Cup, Kane (MBE) has been continuing to fire in the goals for club and country and was backed by almost twice the overall amount of money than Sergio Aguero in fifth.
He is currently 21/10 favourite to be the Golden Boot winner this season in the Premier League: We expect to see the money roll in on the Spurs ace as long as he stays fit!
These five football teams were identified as those that had the most amount of money placed on them by Oddschecker users in 2018.
