Andy Carroll linked with move back to former club

Reports suggest the striker could be on his way out of West Ham this window.

Bookies have priced up the possibility of Andy Carroll making a return to Newcastle United in this transfer window. At odds of 5/2, they’re implying a 28.6% chance the move happens.

The 30-year-old scored his first goal for West Ham since April in a 2-0 FA Cup win at the weekend.

Starting his career at Newcastle in 2006 and going on to score 31 goals in 80 league appearances for the club, the Gateshead-born striker hasn’t been able to hit top gear since leaving.

Having struggled with a raft of injuries since joining the club, Carroll’s contract is due to expire in June and reports suggest he could be shown the door this month. He’s still odds-on to stay at West Ham at 1/2, but is priced at 6/4 to leave.

Three of the clubs currently facing a relegation battle in the Premier League represent long shots in the market to sign the striker, with Burnley (16/1), Huddersfield (20/1) and Southampton (25/1) all priced up.

Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: "Andy Carroll was a fan favourite at St James’ Park before Liverpool made an offer that the club just couldn’t refuse."

"The born-and-bred Geordie would be welcomed back with open arms on Tyneside but it would involve Mike Ashley putting his hand in his pocket, and we all know how that usually goes."
