The early money has been placed on the two United heroes.
Bookmakers have released their shortlist for the next Manchester United Director of Football, with ex-Spurs recruitment chief Paul Mitchell installed as the favourite.
He’s 2/1 to get the gig full time, ahead of the second favourite and hotly tipped Edwin Van der Sar, who is 3/1 to be appointed.
Reports suggest United have drawn up a shortlist of a couple of front-runners for the role, with Mitchell and Atletico Madrid’s Andrea Berta (11/1) linked to the role.
The early money is being placed on two Man Utd legends in the betting, with Van der Sar and Gary Neville (12/1) backed for the job with 24% and 16% of all bets respectively.
Neville has had his odds cut accordingly, coming in from 16/1 into 12/1 following a string of bets.
Elsewhere, Roma Director of Football Monchi is the third favourite for the job at 11/2, followed by the likes of Michael Zorc.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: “Paul Mitchell's reputation was hugely enhanced at both Southampton and Spurs when his recruitment strategy helped improve the fortunes of both teams.
“Given Manchester United's poor track record on that front, he would be a shrewd signing but the mightily ambitious Leipzig would be keen to keep hold of 37-year-old.”
