Newcastle's Deadline Day activity adds to flurry of bets on the Toon staying up

The likes of Almiron and Barreca have resulted in waves of cash for Rafa’s side.

Newcastle United’s last gasp spending spree has resulted in a flurry of bets on the Magpies staying up.

Bookmakers have subsequently lengthened odds on Newcastle doing so, from 1/4 into 1/8 following transfer activity today.

In the last 12 hours, 48% of all bets on who will remain in the Premier League after the season is done and dusted have been placed on the Toon.

However, since the unbelievable win over champions Manchester City, a whopping 86% of bets have backed another season in the Premier League for Rafa Benitez and co.

Elsewhere, the three seemingly-doomed clubs of Huddersfield (35/1), Fulham (11/4) and Cardiff (11/4) have all went unfancied, amassing just 18% of bets between the three of them.

Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: "Newcastle pulled off the shock of the season so far by putting title-hopefuls Man City to the sword on Tuesday night.

“Rafa Benitez has now been handed another unexpected boost with the club's activity on Deadline Day.

"If Almiron impresses as much as he has in the MLS, he could provide the goals that keep Newcastle in the top flight."
