Chelsea legends favourite with bookies to take over from Maurizio Sarri

Several names are linked to the Stamford Bridge hotseat.

It’s looking increasingly likely that Maurizio Sarri could be on borrowed time at Chelsea and some familiar faces are linked to potentially take over from the Italian.

At the top of the market sits Gianfranco Zola and Frank Lampard, who are both as short as 5/2 to become the next Chelsea manager.

Zola is on the coaching staff already and the 52-year-old still maintains legend status at the club after his seven-year spell with the blues at the turn of the millennium.

Lampard needs no introduction and the rookie boss is currently impressing with Derby County, who are in the last 16 of the FA Cup and going for the Championship play-off places.

In the last 24 hours, 60% of bets have gone on Lampard, who would become the first person since Gianluca Vialli to both manage and captain the club.

Completing the list of familiar names is Jose Mourinho. A third spell at the club would be extraordinary, but he is 12/1 to take over and shorter odds than the likes of Didier Deschamps and Luis Enrique.

Oddschecker spokesman George Elek: “Zola and Lampard are arguably the two greatest Chelsea players in the Premier League era, so it's not surprising to see them head up this market. Those who argue that they aren't qualified for the job should remember that Roberto Di Matteo, the last under-qualified club legend who took on the role, won them that elusive Champions League.”
