PUEL SACKED: Former Liverpool boss favourite to be new Leicester manager

Bookies have priced up the candidates to replace the Frenchman.

Following the news that Claude Puel has been sacked as Leicester City manager, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is leading the running to replace him. He’s as short as 6/4, with 7/4 the best price on offer.

Having been in charge at the King Power for 16 months, Puel failed to make his mark with a ninth place finish in his first season.

Being hammered 4-1 at home by Crystal Palace on Saturday was the final straw for those in charge of the club, a result that sees the club sitting 12th in the Premier League.

The early money is going on the favourite, with Rodgers accruing 34% of bets on the next manager market in the last 24 hours.

The question of whether Rodgers would want to leave Celtic behind remains, and this poll shows it could be a tough choice...

Ex-Leicester assistant manager Michael Appleton is second in the market at 8/1. Meanwhile, another former Liverpool boss, Rafael Benitez, is high up in the market at 9/1.

Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: “The news of Claude Puel’s sacking comes as no surprise with Leicester way out of the picture this season.

“Rodgers looks the sensible choice, but it remains to be seen if he’d part with Celtic. You never know, with Fulham looking dead and buried, the stars might just be aligning for a Ranieri return at 100/1.”
