With rumours of discontent still circling Old Trafford, we’ve had a closer look at who may be the next Manchester United manager by the start of next season.
If Manchester United’s indifferent form on the pitch wasn’t enough of a headache for interim manager Ralf Rangnick, power struggles are now coming to a head off the pitch.
Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo are reportedly embroiled in a power struggle over the captaincy, with Maguire left feeling undermined by Rangnick calling upon the Portuguese superstar to mentor some of the team’s younger players.

But is this the first move towards a changing of the captaincy? And would Rangnick, should he be appointed on a permanent basis, or indeed any of the other contenders to become the next Manchester United manager, really choose a 37-year-old to steer the ship?
Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes sent what many perceived to be a loaded Instagram post suggesting he feels “very safe” between Maguire’s regular centre back partner Raphael Varane and Eric Bailly – a possible first XI replacement for Maguire given the Englishman’s recent struggles.

Rangnick drifts after turbulent January
Rangnick was 3/1 at the beginning of the year to be the Red Devils’ boss next season. That price has drifted to 5/1 after losing to Wolves at home and getting knocked out of the FA Cup on penalties to Championship side Middlesbrough.
Erik ten Hag becomes the front-runner
The Ajax boss was 13/2 on January 13th but has since shortened in price on two occasions. The 52-year-old was clipped into 2/1 favourite on February 1st before shortening again to 6/4 (where he remains) after United’s 1-1 draw at home to Southampton.

Mauricio Pochettino remains linked
The Manchester United and Mauricio Pochettino merry-go-round of rumours continue to circulate, with the Argentine still 5/2 to swap Paris for Manchester at the end of the season.
Brendan Rodgers the value bet?
The Leicester manager has publicly criticised his squad in recent weeks after a string of disappointing performances and there have been rumours of differences in opinion surrounding the club’s transfer budget. Could the Manchester United board look to the Northern Irishman next season? He is a best price of 13/2 to be in charge at Old Trafford for the next campaign.
