Multiple bookmakers now have Leeds United priced up at shorter than Evens in the Premier League relegation odds market after yesterday’s 2-1 defeat at the Emirates.
Jesse Marsch’s side have taken a seat in the Premier League drop zone after a disappointing outing against Arsenal in North London, combined with Everton’s victory at Leicester by the same score.
It means that Leeds are best price Evens in the relegation market (worst price 5/6), just two weeks after consolidating at 5/1 by drawing at Crystal Palace to keep alive a five-match unbeaten run – three of those wins against Norwich, Wolves and Watford.
In fact, the 0-3 win at Watford on April 9th saw them drift to 7/1 with some bookmakers, with Burnley dropping to as short as 8/15 or 4/7 later that same weekend after losing at Norwich. Leeds’ remaining fixtures are Chelsea away, Brighton at home and Brentford away.
Everton revival gathers pace
Ironically, Leeds’ supposed survival clinching day at Vicarage Road was also the day that the Everton revival under Frank Lampard got underway with a 1-0 win over Manchester United at Goodison Park. The Blues have lost since to Liverpool at Anfield but mixed that defeat with four points in two league matches against Leicester and a 1-0 win over Chelsea.
Lampard’s side may only be a single point ahead of Leeds (12/1 to be relegated) but they have played a game fewer and face a very favourable three-game run from now until a trickier final day trip to the Emirates. They play relegated Watford at Vicarage Road on Wednesday night (the same day Leeds are at Chelsea), before home matches against Brentford and Crystal Palace.

Burnley miss big Turf Moor chance
Of course, Burnley (11/10) are the other side in the three-way battle to avoid joining Norwich and Watford in the Championship. The Clarets missed a big opportunity at the weekend to take points off Steven Gerrard’s inconsistent Aston Villa side, who interestingly they will play again across their final three league matches. Tottenham away and Newcastle at home are their other remaining fixtures.
Southampton slide into unexpected danger
And just finally, there is still a sequence of events that would see Southampton relegated from the Premier League, something unfathomable when they beat Arsenal on April 16th – a result which saw them stretch out to as long as 275/1 with some bookmakers in the Premier League relegation odds.
However, they are now into 50/1 with some bookmakers (100/1 best price) after picking up just a single point in their subsequent four matches. They sit six points ahead of Leeds in 15th place but only have two games left at home to title-chasing Liverpool and away at Leicester.
