As Steven Gerrard prepares for a pivotal Premier League match at Fulham, we look at those lined up to replace him in the next Aston Villa manager odds market.
Ahead of tomorrow night’s match at Craven Cottage, Gerrard is a best price 1/8 in the next manager to leave market. Southampton’s Ralph Hasenhuttl (8/1) and Leicester’s Brendan Rodgers (10/1) are the second and third favourites respectively.
The Liverpool legend, 42, took over from Dean Smith at Aston Villa when they were two points off relegation in 16th. Almost a year on, Villa sit one point off relegation, still in 16th.

A bright start, including a notable performance vs Manchester United, quickly subsided and Villa have started to really struggle to score goals.
Added to that, there have been rumours of a disgruntled changing room, with Gerrard’s man management called into question. He stripped Tyrone Mings of the captaincy at the start of the season and gave it to John McGinn, a move that was questioned at the time one that now looks misguided given McGinn’s inconsistent form this year.
Who are the favourites to replace Steven Gerrard?
Mauricio Pochettino
Pochettino (best price 8/13) is the name on every Villa fans lips should Gerrard be relieved of his post. The Argentine has been out of a job since leaving PSG in July and Villa are reportedly trying to tempt him back into management.
He has a very reputable CV with over 250 Premier League games and a Champions League final appearance to his name. Should the Villans be able to persuade Pochettino to join them it would be a big coup for the West Midlands club and a huge step in the right direction.

Thomas Tuchel
Tuchel (4/1) is the current second favourite in the race to replace Gerrard. Only sacked by Chelsea last month, the German has already spoken about his interest in the England manager job should it become available.
Like Pochettino, he enjoyed trophy success with big-spending PSG, but unlike the Argentine he has a Champions League win to his name with Chelsea in 2021. Tuchel has also been discussed as a possible replacement for Jurgen Klopp should he leave Liverpool.

Unai Emery
Emery (best price 11/2) is another name on the Aston Villa wish list but – unlike Pochettino or Tuchel – remains in employment with La Liga side Villarreal. The Spaniard’s side currently sit 7th in the league and have won all four of their Europa Conference league games so far.
He has won the Europa League a total of four times during his time with Sevilla and Villarreal, seven trophies with PSG and over 50 Premier League games to his name with Arsenal. So why would he come to Villa from Villareal?
The Premier League has a lot more money than La Liga and that could be a huge factor. Not to mention that Villa’s owners have extremely deep pockets so any manager who joins would almost have free rein to create the team they want to.
