Mauricio Pochettino and Michael Beale lead the race to replace Steven Gerrard in the next Aston Villa manager odds market.
Steven Gerrard, who was as short as 1/8 in the next manager to leave market before last night's trip to Fulham, was subsequently sacked after his side folded to a 3-0 defeat in West London.
The Liverpool legend, 42, had only been in charge at Villa Park since November 2021. He took over from Dean Smith at Aston Villa when they were two points off relegation in 16th. Almost a year on, he leaves them in 17th - only outside the relegation zone on goal difference.
Who are the favourites to replace Steven Gerrard?
Mauricio Pochettino
Mauricio Pochettino was the first name on the lips of Villa fans even before Gerrard's sacking was confirmed by the club late last night. The Argentine is now a best price 7/4. Out of a job since leaving PSG in July, would he really take over a side in such a precarious situation?
He has a very reputable CV with over 250 Premier League games and a Champions League final appearance to his name. Should the Villans be able to persuade Pochettino to join them it would be a big coup for the West Midlands club and a huge step in the right direction.

Michael Beale
Second in the list of replacements for Gerrard is Michael Beale (4/1), the current manager of Queens Park Rangers and Gerrard's former assistant at both Rangers and Aston Villa. He landed the top job at Loftus Road in June of this year and has the side on top of the Championship table after eight wins from 15 matches. Beale reportedly turned down the Wolves manager job earlier this week.

Unai Emery
Unai Emery (best price 8/1) is another name on the Aston Villa wish list but remains in employment with La Liga side Villarreal. The Spaniard’s side currently sit 9th in the league and have won all four of their Europa Conference league games so far.
He has won the Europa League a total of four times during his time with Sevilla and Villarreal, seven trophies with PSG and over 50 Premier League games to his name with Arsenal. So would he come to Villa from Villareal?
