Who are the favourites to win the World Cup 2022?

Moving into the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup, we run through the final four teams starting with England's conquerors and new tournament favourites France.

France 

The French are looking to be only the second team to win back to back World Cups and are now as short as Evens with two bookmakers (best price 11/10) having reached the semi-finals last night.

The tricky Antoine Griezmann (top for key passes at the tournament) continues to impress alongside the pacey Ousmane Dembele, Les Bleus’ record goalscorer Olivier Giroud and, of course, the Golden Boot and Golden Ball favourite Kylian Mbappe.

Argentina

Second favourites ahead of the semi-finals are Lionel Messi’s Copa America holders Argentina at a best price 17/10. Coasting to a win over the Dutch in the quarter-finals, La Albiceleste incredibly conceded two late goals to Burnley flop Wout Weghorst and had to come through penalties. 

Messi is perhaps the only genuine contender to Mbappe for both of the main individual awards. He is 3/1 best price to finish as the tournament’s top goalscorer and 11/8 to win the Golden Ball. 

Croatia 

The 2018 finalists were fortunate to make it to the quarter-finals but played much better to knock out pre-tournament favourites Brazil and reach the final four. Incredibly, they arrive at the semi-final stage having won just one game inside 90 minutes. 

The ace in the pack for Zlatko Dalic’s side is fast becoming Dominik Livakovic, the two-time shootout hero who is now a best price 2/1 (6/4 worst price) to win the Golden Glove.

Morocco

Still the outsiders to win the tournament, when will the bookmakers catch on to Morocco’s chances of winning the whole thing? 250/1 before a ball was kicked, the North African side were still 50/1 before beating Portugal, despite the fact no opposition player had scored past them (one own goal).

Of course, that still rings true after a 1-0 win over Cristiano Ronaldo’s side. Yet you can still back Walid Regragui’s side to win the 2022 World Cup at 11/1.
