Sam McGuire looks to keep up a recent perfect record in the next instalment of his Premier League stats series for oddschecker.
Right, maybe I’m on a bit of a roll. Over the past two weeks, I’m 6/6 with these picks.
Last weekend I highlighted the fact Erling Haaland has scored more than one goal in 44% of the Premier League games he’s netted in this season. He went on to equal the top-flight English record with a double against Leicester City.
I thought Ollie Watkins would impress against Newcastle United and I said Gabriel Jesus would fancy his chances in Arsenal’s game versus West Ham United.
Let's see if I can make it 9/9.
Trent Alexander-Arnold
Since being moved into an inverted full-back role, Alexander-Arnold has three assists in two matches. He ran the show against Leeds United on Monday night, attempting 137 passes and chipping in with two assists as Liverpool romped to a 6-1 win at Elland Road.
His performance against Leeds saw him earn a WhoScored rating of 8.47, a total he’s only bettered on one occasion this season in the 9-0 win over Bournemouth when he racked up a score of 9.26.

Liverpool welcome Nottingham Forest to Anfield on Saturday. The visitors, tipped to go down by two of three tipsters in these relegation predictions, are in poor form and are winless in 10 but it was a similar story when the two sides met in October.
Steve Cooper’s side were winless in eight at the time and had lost six of those matches before their 1-0 win over the Reds. Jurgen Klopp’s side won’t want a repeat performance and Alexander-Arnold will be key to ensuring that doesn’t happen.
Anthony Martial
The French forward is once again back to full fitness and part of Erik ten Hag’s thinking. Martial scored against Everton, assisted a goal against Sevilla in the Europa League and it was his effort that Kaylor Navas parried into the path of Antony on Sunday ahead of the Brazilian opening the scoring.
He wasn’t credited with an assist at the City Ground but he’s involved himself in a goal in each of his last three appearances.
His re-emergence couldn’t have come at a better time for the Red Devils with Marcus Rashford recovering from injury while Wout Weghorst hasn’t had the best of times recently. An FA Cup semi-final against Brighton is going to be difficult but an in-form Martial could prove to be a trump card.
Dominic Solanke
Solanke was prolific for Bournemouth in the Championship last season netting 29 goals last season as the Cherries secured promotion. The big question was whether or not he could perform at a similar level in the Premier League.
In truth, he’s struggled. He has just five goals and six assists in the English top-flight this term. Yet he could prove to be instrumental if they manage to survive.
He was involved in all three goals in the win over Spurs last weekend. In fact, in the games Solanke has been involved in a goal this season, Bournemouth have picked up 16 points. Practically half of their points have come in the six games the former Liverpool man has scored or assisted.
Looking at the table, a win over West Ham this weekend might be enough to secure another season in the Premier League. Solanke, in good form, will want to extend this impressive record.
The series so far:
- 30th March - Saka, Nunez & Mitoma
- 6th April - Salah, Kane & De Gea
- 13th April - Watkins, Jesus & Haaland
