The odds suggest this can only go one way, and it is hard to argue. Sure, Man City lost out in the Community Shield last time out against Arsenal, and Burnley are obviously going to be up for their first game back in the top flight. These factors however don’t overcome the fact that Man City are just far superior to Burnley.
City lost Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan in the summer, but Mateo Kovacic has already been brought in to replace Gundogan, and City have ample options out wide as well.
Kevin De Bruyne is expected to start on the bench, meaning Bernardo Silva will likely play central midfield, with Phil Foden and Jack Grealish operating from the wings. Kovacic should make his debut alongside Silva and Rodri in midfield, whilst fellow new signing Josko Gvardiol will likely have to wait.
Summer signing, James Trafford should start in goal for Burnley against his former club, while fellow recruits, Dara O’Shea, and Zeki Amdouni are expected to start as well. Burnley will not have Nathan Tella this season, who was instrumental to their Championship success, by Anass Zaroury should certainly provide a creative spark for Burnley.
It seems hard to predict anything other than a Burnley win, so we won’t try to.
