Next Rangers Manager Odds: Muscat and Potter lead the race to replace Beale

A former player for the club, Kevin Muscat is the bookmakers' favourite in the next Rangers manager odds market after the departure of Michael Beale.

Michael Beale has been sacked by Rangers after a third defeat in seven league matches left the club seven points behind Scottish Premiership leaders, Celtic.

The 43-year-old failed to reach a year in charge at Ibrox having been appointed on 28th November 2022. He won 31 of his 43 matches in charge, mixing four draws with eight defeats.

Unfortunately, a fast start for Beale - he won Scottish Premiership Manager of the Month in his first full month in charge - quickly petered out. The Gers were beaten by Celtic in the Scottish League Cup final and finished seven points adrift of their Glasgow rivals in the final 2022/23 league table.

Who is the favourite for manager of Rangers?

Kevin Muscat is the 5/1 bookmakers' favourite to replace Michael Beale as Rangers manager. The 50-year-old is currently in charge of Japanese side Yokohama Marinos having spent the majority of his coaching career in his native Australia with Melbourne Victory, winning both the A-League Championship (twice) and A-League Premiership.

Kevin Muscat – 5/1

Known as a 'hard man' in his playing days, Muscat was part of the Rangers side which won a treble of domestic trophies in 2002/03. He was reportedly left out of Old Firm derbies during that season because of his fiery temperament.

Graham Potter – 7/1

The forgotten man of football, Graham Potter (7/1) is the second favourite to become the next Rangers manager after Beale. The 48-year-old impressed in a three-year spell with Brighton, but failed on his biggest assignment to date – winning just 12 of his 31 matches with Chelsea in all competitions. He left the club in 11th place in the Premier League after just seven months in charge.

Jesse Marsch – 8/1

Another man to have failed to reach the 12-month milestone in his last job, Jesse Marsch is the third favourite for the Rangers manager job at 8/1, eight months after leaving Leeds.

He left the Yorkshire club just outside the relegation zone in 17th place but they were unable to survive under supposed survival specialist ‘Big Sam’ Allardyce.

Kjetil Knutsen – 8/1

FK Bodø/Glimt's manager Kjetil Knutsen (8/1) is another man in the running to replace Beale at Rangers. Having joined in January 2018, the Norwegian led the club to successive Eliteserien titles in 2020 and 2021 before finishing second behind runaway winners Molde in 2022. With seven matches to go in the 2023 season, his side are top of the table by a single point from Viking.
