Next Bayern Munich Manager Odds: Alonso & Mourinho favourites to replace Tuchel

Thomas Tuchel will leave Bayern Munich just over a year into the deal he agreed when joining the club in March 2023.

It has been confirmed that Thomas Tuchel, a Champions League winning manager from his time with Chelsea, will leave Bayern Munich this summer as part of "a sporting realignment" at the club.

Tuchel led Bayern to the Bundesliga title in 2022/23 just two months after joining but they are eight points adrift of Xabi Alonso's unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen after 22 matches.

His team were beaten 3-0 by Leverkusen before losing 3-2 at mid-table VfL Bochum.

Who is the favourite to replace Tuchel at Bayern Munich?

Xabi Alonso is the bookmakers' favourite to replace Thomas Tuchel as Bayern Munich manager next season at a best price of 3/1 on Sky Bet (implied 25% chance).

The 42-year-old, who made almost 80 league appearances for Bayern in his playing days (winning the league title in each of his three seasons), is enjoying an incredible start to his managerial career with Bayer Leverkusen, winning 45 of his first 69 matches in charge.

The team are currently eight points clear of Harry Kane’s Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga table after 22 matches unbeaten (W18 D4).

Complicating the issue is that Alonso remains the favourite to replace Jurgen Klopp in the next Liverpool manager odds market at a best price of 8/11.

Zinedine Zidane, meanwhile, has emerged as the second favourite (13/2) to replace Tuchel as Bayern manager. The 51-year-old Zidane has been out of work since the end of his second spell at Real Madrid in May 2021.

He won two La Liga titles in his time with the Spanish giants and landed the Champions League trophy in three successive seasons.

Third in the next Bayern manager odds market is Jose Mourinho (8/1 on BetVictor), who was sacked by Roma in January following a poor run of form. The ‘Special One’ spent two and a half years with the Italian club, leaving the club 9th in Serie A after 20 matches played in the 2023/24 season.

His contract was due to expire in June 2024 but the club moved him on early after a run of just one win in his last six Serie A matches. Mourinho was also sent off as Roma were knocked out of the Coppa Italia by city rivals Lazio.

Now 61 years of age, Mourinho joined Roma in 2021 and led them to the Europa Conference League title in 2022 - his first season in charge. He has won 68 of his 138 matches in charge with a win rate just under 50%.

And looking at fourth place in the market raises the intriguing possibility of Jurgen Klopp (8/1) jumping straight back into management with Bayern once he leaves Liverpool this summer. That’s despite him citing a lack of energy and implying the need for a break as a reason for leaving Anfield.
