Who is Francesco Farioli?

Farioli assisted the outgoing Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi at both Benevento and Sassuolo (2017-20) before starting his managerial journey in March 2021 with Turkish side Fatih Karagümrük.

At 31, he was the youngest football manager in a pro league in Europe at the time.

He spent just nine months there before he returned to manage Alanyaspor, where he had served as assistant between his time serving De Zerbi and his first managerial job.

In June of last year he took charge of French club Nice. His team finished 5th in Ligue 1, mixing 15 wins with nine defeats.

He is seen as an innovative coach in the mould of De Zerbi. His Nice team deploy a 2-3-2 build-up structure from the back, featuring two centre backs with a pivot and two full-backs in front.

Two central number eights are then tasked with joining the front three to form an attacking five to make the difference in the final third.

When De Zerbi first confirmed his intention to leave the Amex, it was McKenna who was widely expected to take over by the bookmakers

The Northern Irishman has led Ipswich back into the big time through back-to-back promotions from League One, having been given his big break in senior coaching by Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.

Ironically, McKenna's decision to leave Portman Road for Brighton (or Chelsea) may be influenced by the struggles of Burnley this season under Vincent Kompany.

Kompany himself has the third shortest price (5/1 on bet365) to replace De Zerbi at Brighton and has emerged as a surprise candidate to succeed Thomas Tuchel at Bayern Munich.
