Next Manager Sacked Odds: Will van Nistelrooy or Postecoglou go this weekend?

Leicester and Tottenham go head-to-head this weekend, with uncertainty looming over the futures of both managers.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Leicester reign started with a bang. The Dutchman oversaw a 3-1 home win over West Ham in his first game in the King Power Stadium dugout. Maybe, then, the decision to relieve Steve Cooper of his duties was justified.

The Foxes followed up that win with a 2-2 home draw against Brighton, coming from two goals down to rescue a point late on.

The New Manager Bounce can only take a team so high, however. Leicester have since come crashing back to earth with a bang.

Indeed, a 2-0 defeat to Fulham last time out extended their losing run to seven matches.

Their form isn't the only worry for Leicester however, as Ruud van Nistelrooy is reportedly considering resigning as Leicester manager amid frustrations over a lack of squad investment.

They face Tottenham this weekend in what could be a decisive match for both managers as Ange Postecoglou’s position at Spurs is under increasing pressure after a dismal run of form.

Who is favourite to be sacked next in the Premier League?

While the fixture list hasn’t been kind on Van Nistelrooy – they have taken on Newcastle, Liverpool, Manchester City and Aston Villa in that time – football is a results business and a run of one win in nine in all competitions, that coming against Championship opposition QPR, makes for dire reading.

After reports of a heated row following the 2-0 loss to Fulham last weekend began to emerge, speculation surrounding Van Nistelrooy’s future is doing the rounds.

Rumours even suggested the former Manchester United striker would be prepared to resign due to a lack of squad investment in the January window. At the time of writing, right-back Woyo Coulibaly is the only new addition.

Sunday’s trip to Tottenham, though, may prove just the tonic for this down and out Foxes outfit. Dr Tottenham so often has a knack of showing up at the worst possible time for Spurs.

Ipswich claimed their first league win over the season in the capital back in November.

Dominic-Calvert Lewin ended a 16-game goalless run when he channelled the spirit of prime Ronaldo in Everton’s 3-2 win over Ange Postecoglou’s side last week.

Defeat at Goodison Park means Spurs have now failed to win in six, losing five times in that run.

Leicester are currently at a best price of 11/2 to beat Spurs in El Sackico on Sunday.

Thursday’s 3-2 win at Hoffenheim gives Postecoglou some breathing space but the Australian is still the 11/10 favourite with Sky Bet to be the next Premier League manager to leave his post, with Van Nistelrooy in at second at 7/4 with Ladbrokes.

Factor in Tottenham’s lengthy absentee list – Dominic Solanke and Pape Sarr have recently taken up residency in the Hotspur Way physio room to make it 10 players missing for Spurs – and the chance is there for Van Nistelrooy and Leicester to capitalise.

That said, this is a game Spurs should win. Since taking over as Leicester boss, only Southampton (1) have collected fewer points than Van Nistelrooy’s Foxes side (4), that level with Spurs.

Even so, only Saints (5) have scored fewer goals than Leicester (7), who in turn have shipped 21 times; only the south coast side have conceded more (25).

The results haven’t gone quite according to plan after a promising start and as reports of a looming resignation circulate, backing Van Nistelrooy to be the next manager to leave his post at 7/4 presents decent value.
