Next Notts County Manager Odds: Who is favourite to replace Stuart Maynard?

Notts County sacked Stuart Maynard after a late-season collapse ended their League Two promotion hopes, with the search for a new manager already underway.

Notts County sacked head coach Stuart Maynard after a poor end to the 2024/25 campaign saw their League One promotion hopes fall short.

Appointed in January 2024, Maynard stepped into full-time management after replacing Luke Williams but struggled to convince across his 16 months in charge.

Despite defensive improvements this season, a collapse in form, with just one win in their final eight matches, saw the Magpies finish sixth before falling to AFC Wimbledon in the play-off semi-finals.

With tensions high among supporters and pressure mounting, owners Chris and Alex Reedtz acted swiftly, confirming the hunt for a new manager is already underway.

Who is favourite to be the next Notts County manager?

Luke Williams is the clear favourite to return as Notts County manager, with bookmakers pricing him at 2/5 (Bet Victor) amid growing speculation of a Meadow Lane reunion.

Williams left the club in January 2024 after guiding them to a historic National League promotion (107 points), but his stint at Swansea City has been less successful.

He departed the Welsh side after just 13 months in charge, with the club sitting 17th in the Championship, eight points above the relegation zone with 13 games to play.

Despite that setback, his previous success and strong ties to Notts County make him a natural contender for the vacancy.

Steffen Højer has emerged as a surprise contender in the race to become the next Notts County manager, with odds of 4/1 suggesting a 25% chance of landing the job.

Currently in charge of Denmark’s U21s, Højer recently guided his side to qualification for the 2025 UEFA European Under-21 Championship, topping their group with an impressive 5-2-1 record.

They currently top Group D with two wins in two games.

His progressive style of play and Danish roots could appeal to club owners Chris and Alex Reedtz, who are known admirers of modern, data-driven football.

However, with no experience in English football and a contract with Denmark U21 this move is complicated.
