England Route to Euro 2025 Final & Latest Odds after Penalty Drama

England are through to the semi-finals of the Women's Euros after a dramatic win over Sweden on penalties - who do they play next?

The UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 is now reaching the final stages, with two of the semi-finalists now confirmed. Six nations remain in the hunt to lift the trophy in Basel next weekend.

One of those six nations is, of course, England after last night's incredible drama in Zurich. The Lionesses prevailed despite missing four of their seven penalties.

Sweden only converted two of their seven, with England goalkeeper Hannah Hampton saving two of them. Hampton's Swedish counterpart Jennifer Falk kept out four spot-kicks and missed a chance to win it as her country's fifth taker.

England's next opponents will be Italy, who edged past a Norway side who had reached the knockout stages with a 100% record after wins over Switzerland, Finland and Iceland.

Quarter-final action continues tonight as Spain meet hosts Switzerland in Bern, while France are preparing for a showdown with Germany in Basel on Saturday night.

England Route to Euro 2025 Final

England’s campaign at UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 has been a bit of a rollercoaster.

Drawn into a fiercely competitive Group D with France, the Netherlands, and Wales, the defending champions knew they’d have to navigate a treacherous path to keep their title defence alive.

Now, having booked their semi-final place after last night's nerve-shredding win over Sweden, Sarina Wiegman’s side stand just two games away from retaining their title.

A Stumbling Start in a Group of Death

England opened their tournament against France in what proved a stern early test. The Lionesses fell 2-1 in a tightly contested affair, undone by goals from Sandie Toletti and Marie-Antoinette Katoto.

The defeat left England with little margin for error, placing pressure on their remaining group games to stay in contention.

Statement Win Against the Dutch

England responded like champions. In their second outing, they swept aside the Netherlands with a statement 4-0 win.

The victory not only revitalised their campaign but also showcased the clinical edge and defensive resolve that had defined their Euro 2022 success.

With momentum back on their side, Wiegman’s squad looked like a force to be reckoned with.

Welsh Rout Secures Knockout Berth

The Lionesses sealed their quarter-final spot in emphatic style, dismantling Wales 6-1 in St. Gallen.

Georgia Stanway slotted home from the penalty spot before Ella Toone, Lauren Hemp, Alessia Russo, Beth Mead, and Aggie Beever-Jones joined the scoresheet.

Hannah Cain’s goal gave Welsh fans a moment to celebrate in their debut tournament, but England’s dominance was never in doubt.

The result confirmed a second-place finish behind France and a knockout clash with Sweden.

Knockout Path: Sweden First, Then a Showdown With Italy

Finishing as Group D runners-up handed England a quarter-final date with Sweden, the Group C winners from a pool that included Germany, Denmark and Poland.

Having battled past the Swedes, a semi-final looms against Italy, who edged past Norway 2-1 courtesy of a last-minute winner from Cristiana Girelli.

Eyes on Basel: The Final

The Euro 2025 final will be staged at St. Jakob-Park in Basel on July 27.

England could find themselves facing World Champions Spain, tournament favourites with recent World Cup and Nations League titles under their belt.

Or perhaps it will be Germany, the most decorated team in the competition’s history with eight titles, setting the stage for a rematch of the Euro 2022 final.

Hosts Switzerland are the rank outsiders in this half of the draw, but their momentum, and the home crowd, could be a wildcard.

England know what they are up against if they were to draw France, with the French having beaten them 2-1 earlier in the tournament. With the added motivation of chasing a first major international title it could be a tough tie.
