Blackburn Rovers have parted ways with Valerien Ismael after a winless run left the club in the Championship relegation zone.
Blackburn Rovers have moved swiftly to end Valerien Ismael’s 12-month reign as head coach after a worrying slump left the club teetering in the Championship relegation zone.
The 50-year-old, who guided Rovers to a narrow miss on last season’s play-offs, departs following an eight-game winless streak that has seen the Lancashire side slip to 22nd, three points adrift of safety.
Assistant coach Dean Whitehead will also leave as the club begins the search for a new manager capable of steering Blackburn away from their first relegation battle since returning to the second tier in 2017-18.

Who is favourite to be the next Blackburn Rovers manager?
Tony Mowbray (5/2 – BetVictor)
A familiar face at Ewood Park, Mowbray previously guided Blackburn to Championship promotion in 2018 and kept them competitive in the second tier during his five-year spell. His experience in the Championship and knowledge of the club make him a strong contender to steady the ship during this relegation battle.
Slaven Bilic (3/1 – BetVictor)
Bilic is eyeing a return to English football after nearly three years away from management. The former West Ham and Watford boss has a wealth of experience in the Premier League and Championship, and his pragmatic, attack-minded approach could inject fresh energy into a struggling Blackburn squad.
David Wagner (5/1 – BetVictor)
Wagner is best known for leading Huddersfield to Premier League promotion in 2017 and taking Norwich to the Championship play-offs in 2024. His track record of navigating high-pressure promotion campaigns and playoff runs makes him an intriguing option to rescue Blackburn from the bottom three and push on.
