Former Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur star, Teddy Sheringham recently told Oddschecker in an interview that he believes Michael Carrick is the right man to become Manchester United manager full-time.

After Man United's 2-1 win over Brentford on Monday, they are now odds of 1/500 to achieve a Premier League Top 5 Finish and secure Champions League football.

When asked last week if Sheringham believed Carrick was the right man for the job, he had this to say:

"I'd be delighted with Michael Carrick (as next Man Utd manager). I think he's been a revelation since he's gone in there. I think the talk about him being the same as Ole Gunnar Solskjær is a load of rubbish! This is Michael Carrick, not Ole’s brother we are talking about.

Carrick will be his own man and he's changed things around. He's got the club into a very good position now, after where they were when he arrived, and the way they're playing has been fantastic. They're playing on the front foot and playing with confidence. I see no one else in the picture for Man United to bring in to be honest."

As of Tuesday afternoon, Michael Carrick is the 8/11 favourite to be the Manchester United Manager for the First Game of the 2026/27 season.

This sentiment is echoed by Oddschecker bettors, with 89% of all bets on that market backing Carrick over the past seven days.

Who is favourite to be next Manchester United manager?

As mentioned above, Michael Carrick heads the betting at 8/11 to be Man United manager to start the 2026/27 season. His closest competitor in the betting is Andoni Iraola, who's priced at 8/1.

What chance does Man United have of achieving Champions League?

After their 2-1 victory over Brentford on Monday Night Football, Man United are 1/500 (99.8% implied probability) to achieve a Top 5 Finish and a return to Champions League football.

When Carrick took over the role on the 13th January, United had been priced up at 5/2 (28.6% implied probability) for a Top 5 Finish.
