Next Premier League Manager Sacked Odds: Carrick v De Zerbi

Next Premier League Manager Sacked Odds: Carrick v De Zerbi

Two of the favourites to be sacked next in the Premier League face off this weekend.

Michael Carrick and Roberto De Zerbi go head to head at Old Trafford on Saturday, and the two managers are also at the top of the betting to be the first Premier League boss to lose their job this season. Carrick heads the Next Manager To Leave Post market at a best price of 5/2. De Zerbi is right behind him at 11/4, and most bookmakers have the pair at 9/4 or shorter.

Manchester United host Tottenham at 5.30pm BST on Saturday 10 October, live on Sky Sports, in the first Premier League game after a three-week international break. United are 12th on five points, their joint-lowest total after five Premier League games. Spurs are bottom, without a win and with only two goals.

No Premier League manager has been sacked so far this season.

Michael Carrick Sack Odds

Carrick's price has collapsed in the last two months. Ladbrokes and Coral had him at 50/1 on 17 August, before a ball was kicked. Sky Bet and Paddy Power went 33/1 that day and have since cut him to 9/4.

The biggest move came after United were knocked out of the Carabao Cup at home by Brighton on 16 September, losing 3-2 after leading 2-0. William Hill had Carrick at 8/1 that day and evens two days later. United were booed off, and Carrick said afterwards: "I don't feel under pressure. It doesn't bother me one bit." He has since drifted back out to 5/2 with William Hill.

United have won once in five league games. They lost 2-0 at Hull on the opening weekend and 1-0 at home to a 10-man Manchester City, and needed an 89th-minute equaliser to draw at Fulham. Carrick was made permanent on a two-year deal in May after leading United to third last season. After the Fulham draw he said: "What bothers me is that we want better results. We need to win football matches."

Roberto De Zerbi Sack Odds

De Zerbi has been shortened from 16/1 with Sky Bet in late August to 9/4 now. Spurs lost 3-0 at Brentford on the opening day and did not score in the league until a 3-2 home defeat to Aston Villa on 19 September, when they were booed off.

De Zerbi said after that game: "In my career, 14 years as a coach, I've never seen one team like us. So fragile, so inconsistent."

Chief executive Vinai Venkatesham has publicly backed him, telling supporters he is "encouraged by aspects of the underlying performances" and that the changes "might take time". De Zerbi kept Spurs up after arriving in March and signed a long-term contract. The club spent more than £300m in the summer.

Manchester United v Tottenham

United won 2-0 when Spurs visited Old Trafford in February. Carrick and De Zerbi have met once before as managers, when De Zerbi's Brighton won 5-1 at Carrick's Middlesbrough in the FA Cup third round in January 2023.

United have injury doubts over Marcus Rashford, Kobbie Mainoo and Benjamin Sesko after they pulled out of international duty, while Manuel Ugarte is ruled out. Spurs are without Xavi Simons, Wilson Odobert, Mykhailo Mudryk and Pedro Porro, and Micky van de Ven is expected to play despite strapping on his fingers.

The rest of the market is led by Fulham's Alvaro Arbeloa and Crystal Palace's Pierre Sage at 5/1. Fulham are without a league win this season, and Palace have won once in five.
