Next Man Utd Manager Odds: Eddie Howe Favourite as Conte Talk Grows

Michael Carrick is under pressure and the next few games could decide this future at Man United.

Eddie Howe is the 2/1 favourite to be Manchester United's next permanent manager.

United have taken only six points from their first six league games, their worst start in 40 years, after a 1-1 home draw with a Tottenham side that began the day bottom of the table. They now head to The Metripolitano to face an Atleti side in top form in the Champions League.

Michael Carrick is still in the dugout and says the speculation isn't getting to him: "I don't feel the pressure from that at all." Fabian Hurzeler is the 5/1 second favourite, and Conte is 6/1 at best.

United play Atlético Madrid tonight at 8pm BST, live on Amazon Prime Video

Eddie Howe Leads the Next Man Utd Manager Betting

Howe has been out of work since leaving Newcastle, and he's been named as United's contingency option if they move on from Carrick. He's 2/1 with all four bookmakers pricing the market.

He ticks two big boxes thanks to his Premier League and Champions League experience. His record includes guiding Newcastle to Champions League qualification twice, though things soured towards the end, with a 12th-placed finish last season. He also took Bournemouth from the bottom of League Two to the top flight.

Antonio Conte Odds After Agreement Reports

An Italian outlet reports that Conte has already held talks with Old Trafford chiefs and is “reaching an agreement”, though that remains unconfirmed, and Carrick is understood to be safe for now. Fabrizio Romano has said Conte left Napoli in the summer and is ready to restart, and Conte recently said he is drawn to clubs that have lost sight of their history, which fuelled the speculation. He is currently unattached after winning his fifth Serie A title at Napoli, and he has Premier League pedigree from his time at Chelsea.

Yet the bookmakers haven't moved him to the top of the market. He's 5/1 with three firms and 6/1 at BetVictor, level with Hurzeler at the shortest price.

Nagelsmann, McKenna and Tuchel in the Man Utd Manager Market

The biggest gaps between bookmakers are lower down the market. BetVictor has Thomas Tuchel at just 7/2, while the other three firms offer 14/1. It also prices Julian Nagelsmann at 4/1, against a best of 13/2 elsewhere.

Kieran McKenna is 10/1 at best, and former United midfielder Darren Fletcher is 20/1 across the board.

Can Carrick Keep the Man Utd Job?

Carrick's next test is a Champions League trip to Atlético tonight. A good result would ease the pressure, while a heavy defeat could quickly bring these prices in. United have had a long list of managers since Sir Alex Ferguson retired, and the next permanent appointment will be judged against that history.
