Betway still hold the best price on West Ham at 4/7, but Middlesbrough are now the favourites at 4/9 with Bet365.
West Brom won 3-1 at West Ham on 31 October, a week after Southampton left with all three points.
Jarrod Bowen has scored nine goals this season, but the defence behind him keeps leaking.
Saturday's 3-1 home defeat to West Brom is what moved this market. Bowen's ninth goal of the season pulled West Ham level after Felix Horn Myhre gave the visitors the lead, and for a while it looked like the captain would carry them again. He couldn't. Jimmy-Jay Morgan and Callum Styles both scored after the break, and Nuno Espírito Santo's flurry of second-half changes, Tomáš Souček and Taty Castellanos among them, did nothing to rescue it. Bowen and defender Konstantinos Mavropanos had both been carrying knocks going into the game, and the Hammers looked like a side short of a full tank.
The bigger worry is the pattern. Southampton won 3-2 at West Ham the weekend before, which means the Hammers have conceded three in each of their last two home outings. You don't earn a short price for promotion by losing at home, and the bookies have reacted accordingly. West Brom's win took them up to fourth, while West Ham have slipped to eighth on the log. A team whose only reliable weapon is Bowen in front of goal can't keep shipping goals at this rate and expect the market to stay patient.
Championship Promotion odds
Best odds on West Ham to win promotion from the Championship are 4/7 with Betway, worst are 1/2 with Bet365. Paddy Power, StarSportsBet, PricedUp, Bet Victor and 10Bet all sit at that same shorter price, so if you're backing the Hammers, shop around.

Who is favourite ahead of West Ham to win promotion from the Championship?
Middlesbrough are the favourites at a best price of 4/9 with Bet365, with West Ham second-shortest at 4/7 with Betway. Boro have earned their spot at the head of the queue by winning games consistently, which is exactly what West Ham have stopped doing. Behind the top two, the market thinks it's a much more open race.
Middlesbrough – 4/9 with Bet365. They top the table with 28 points.
West Ham – 4/7 with Betway. Eighth after back-to-back home defeats.
Wolverhampton – 5/4 with Betfair Sportsbook, Paddy Power and Skybet, with three firms matching each other on the best price.
Southampton – 6/4 with William Hill. They already have a 3-2 win at West Ham behind them this season.

Can West Ham win promotion from the Championship?
They can, but there's nothing easy about the next week. West Ham go to Cardiff on Wednesday 4 November, and Cardiff come into that game having won their last two at home, against Birmingham and Watford. After that comes a trip to Blackburn, so the Hammers have to fix things on the road. Bowen's fitness is the one thing that matters most here. He's the main source of goals, and without him firing this team doesn't look like a top-two side. My take is simple: the drift is justified, and at 4/7 with Betway I'm not backing West Ham until that defence goes a game without conceding three. Two solid away results would get the market back on their side quickly. Two more poor ones and that drift could become a proper slide.
