It was the kind of grit Venezia badly needed, and Bašić and Pérez supplied the cutting edge from the engine room.

A trip to face Juventus comes next, followed by a visit from a Bologna side that have won their last three matches in Serie A. The way to survive is the way they beat Udinese: stay stubborn when things go against them and lean on the goal threat Bašić and Pérez bring from midfield. Our view is that the drift is deserved. At 10/11 the market still prices relegation as slightly more likely than not, and on the evidence of Friday's fightback that looks a touch harsh on Venezia, so we would not be rushing in to back them for the drop at this price.
