Where is the money going for next week’s Masters through oddschecker?
Writing in his first betting trends article for the Masters 2024, Niall Lyons suggested it might be wise to oppose last year’s winner Jon Rahm.
He also looked at the merits of steering clear of champions over the last decade - the last 10 winners of the tournament have only managed two top fives between them in 43 tries.
However, the hottest player on the planet Scottie Scheffler (seven top 10s in eight events so far this season) may have something to say about that.
The world number one (4/1 to win the Masters on William Hill), denied a third consecutive win at the weekend by a single stroke, has taken more than 11% of the total bets on the Masters since the start of the year.
Let’s look at the top five most popular selections through oddschecker.

Masters Tips from Niall Lyons
In the same betting preview, Niall Lyons concludes that being in contention in the previous major championship is a pre-requisite if you want to win the next one. Eight of the last 15 major winners also posted a top 10 in the previous major.
Of the non-major winners who finished in the top 10 at Royal Liverpool, only two have managed a top five in majors - Tommy Fleetwood and Cameron Young.
Both are still looking for their first PGA Tour victory. Young was Lyons' trends pick last year and finished 7th so preference this time is for Fleetwood (best price 55/1 on Sky Bet) who has managed a victory this year in Dubai, overcoming Rory McIlroy in the process.
That was something Young (45/1 on Paddy Power) couldn't do when leading heading into the final day of the Dubai Desert Classic in January with Rory overcoming a four shot deficit there on the final day.
Fleetwood has 'base camped' with two runner ups in majors before. With this previous top 20 at Augusta and 10th place at Royal Liverpool, he looks the most likely first time winner.
