We reveal the most backed horses through Oddschecker on the fifth day of Royal Ascot.
Blue Point – 9/4 – 16:20 Diamond Jubilee Stakes
Having defended his title in the King’s Stand Stakes on Tuesday, Charlie Appleby sends the five-year-old straight back out for more. He’s shown his quality over 6f in Meydan already this season and if fully recovered there’s no reason why he can’t complete a spectacular double.
Pinatubo – 4/1 – 14:30 Chesham Stakes
Unbeaten in two starts over 6f, the Godolphin colt most recently justified favouritism in the Woodcote at Epsom. Perhaps not too comfortable at the speed over 6f, punters are expecting the extra furlong to work to his advantage this afternoon.
Lope Y Fernandez – 6/4 – 14:30 Chesham Stakes
Won with consummate ease at the Curragh on his debut, beating a couple of promising stablemates in the process. A 900,000 euro yearling, he looks a hot prospect for Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore has opted for him in the opener today.
Cape Byron – 6/1 – 17:00 Wokingham Stakes
Roger Varian’s charge has valuable course form on his side having won the Victoria Cup here in May and there’s every possibility that the shorter trip will help rather than hinder the five-year-old. The current favourite will have Andrea Atzeni on board again.
Cleonte – 4/1 – 17:35 Queen Alexandra Stakes
Severely held up in the Ascot Stakes last year, running into traffic here in the Sagaro in May and then battling against terrible conditions in the Chester Cup; Andrew Balding’s charge has certainly not been short of excuses. Punters are looking to previous form which suggests a big run could be on the cards and Silvestre De Sousa takes the ride today.
