Betting heated up over the weekend as we edged closer to the 2024 Cheltenham Festival.
There were two horses attracting more attention that the rest of the runners over the weekend.
Lossiemouth was the most backed horse for Day 1 of the Cheltenham Festival over the weekend, with 6% of all Day 1 bets being placed on the five-year-old.
The Willie Mullins horse would have benefited from many punters believing the ground maybe softer than previous years on the opening day.
Lossiemouth is currently the 4/6 favourite to win the Close Brothers Mares’ Hurdle; however, despite the increased popularity with bettors, the former Festival winners odds are on the drift.
State Man has been a popular ante-post bet for many and the support doesn’t seem to be slowing down. State Man is the 1/3 favourite for the Champion Hurdle and has accounted for 5% of all bets on Day 1 of the Festival.
Oddschecker spokesperson Sam Eaton said: “Lossiemouth and State Man will be a popular double for Day 1, but the third most backed horse over the weekend might surprise a few.
Slade Steel has accounted for 4% of all Day 1 bets despite being in a hotly contested Supreme Novices’ Hurdle. Slade Steel is currently 5/1 to win the opener.”
